Resume

2021 - Published by YIRI Foundation - Taipei

If there is an "Ideal Life Criteria," things would be much easier. We can practice our daily routines by its guidelines and execute actions to please its standards. True and false aren't included in the criteria. In fact, no one really cares. Eventually, it is the ideal lives that deviate from the truth that will become the mainstream. So, until you are satisfied, you'll have to continue to pretend.

Pre - Construction

2019 - Published by HIVE Contemporary Art Center  - Beijing

This latest solo exhibition of Shih Yung Chun held in Hive Center for Contemporary Art (Beiling), suggestive of both "migration" and "farewell" as I see it, is, on the one hand, related to his own novel Pre-Construction. In half-seclusion, he made all these works, put up all the spatial installations and photographed in a single cabin on the mountain where his life was led.

Pre - Construction Novel

2019 - Published by Shih Yung Chun - Taipei

For his 2019 solo “Pre-Construction” held in Hive Center for Contemporary Art, Shih Yung-Chun has written a novel by the same title at a length of about 60,000 characters, which underlies all the general concepts of the solo exhibition. The story starts from the landlord taking back the space the artist uses as his studio, so, to safeguard the memories with it that he doesn’t want to forget, he covers the inner surface of the two-storey house with 476 wood boards to make a mold for a replica he later rebuilds in an abandoned plant near his abode so that he can once again live in the familiar house.

All the daily objects, in the residence which combines living and working functions, are carrying out a fixed process in the working space in the first floor. Sometimes they are given another new use, sometimes their original functions and appearance undergo some changes. Then, they are often taken everywhere to take photos in the second floor of this two-story building which combines living space and small foundry, usually it's demonstrated by me and my dog, or by friends who happen to visit.

Play Manuals

2015 - Published by Art Experience Gallery - Hong Kong

The day when I visited Mr Shih and Dou Dou and his friends, he was living as usual, playing and creating. In his universe of creation, he takes away all the boundaries separating our world, and replaced it with love. All the 'soap operas' that he directed inspire people to discover freedom and passion in life, somehow there is a parallel space to our reality where people can recover creativity and imagination.

Shih Yung Chun

In the process of dramatization, stories are mingled with reality and fabrication. Who on earth can distinguish fact from fiction? Humanity’s endless fascination of dramas comes from the fear of chasing the truth in a deceitful world, and this is exactly the orientation and motivation for Shih Yung Chun in creating his works. It might also be the true reason why he why he indulges in this fascination.

Zakka

2013 - Published by PiaoPiao Gallery - Taipei

After graduating from Department of Fine Arts of National Taiwan University of Arts, Shih Yung-chun unlike the young artists who are devoted to continuous creation and active participation in exhibitions.put more emphasis on "life." He believes the most important thing is the physical and psychological balance and happiness and that will further inspire art creation. After graduation, Shih Yung-chun in the past six years was isolated with creation; at that time, he could not find the meaning of creation. But after the long time to set the mind at ease, Shih Yung-chun picked up the drive of creation and knew clearly about the balance of personal life and creation.

Soap Opera

2012 - Published by Line Gallery - Beijing

The uniqueness in Shih Yung Chun’s works is the sense of vicissitudes of the fleeting time. Shih Yung Chun not only skillfully lays out three-dimensional spatiality in a two-dimensional space; further, by using techniques of abrasion, mosaic, color-gradation and rubbing, he creates an association to fourth-dimensional space. He discards the vivid surface of reality; instead, he deliberately digs the fear from blurred memories buried in humanity.
